Hyperscaler
In the cloud market, hyperscalers are providers operating very large data centre infrastructures and supplying computing capacity, storage and other services at substantial scale.
Large platforms bundle more than computing capacity
For a growing sales application, a large cloud provider can supply infrastructure, storage and AI services within one environment. That may simplify coordination between suppliers. It also connects technical choices: using many specialised services from one platform may require several workflows to change together during a migration. Provider size alone therefore does not resolve the procurement decision. The required services, contract terms and the organisation’s ability to operate them reliably matter more directly.
Preserve options after the initial deployment
Vendor lock-in can arise from data formats, interfaces, operational knowledge and contractual commitments. Flexibility at the start may decline as usage grows. Procurement should therefore assess export options, regional requirements and the cost of an alternative alongside capacity and availability. Cloud describes the delivery model; hyperscaler describes a class of provider. A small restoration or migration exercise can be more informative than broad assurances. Decision-makers need to know whether the platform supports expected operations and whether later changes remain feasible. There is no universally best provider size for every workload.
