GLOSSARY

Self hosting

Self-hosting means that an organisation operates an application or model on infrastructure under its responsibility. That infrastructure may be in its own data centre or a rented environment. What matters is who actually owns operation, configuration and necessary safeguards.

Process confidential documents reliably

A company wants to analyse proposal calculations in a controlled environment. Self-hosting may provide additional design choices. Someone must also manage updates, access, backups and incidents. A hosting location alone does not resolve those responsibilities.

Procurement therefore needs evidence that the available team can sustain the intended service. Reserved resources may be expensive for occasional use, while a predictable high workload can support a different assessment. Dependencies on hardware, model suppliers or specialist employees remain relevant.

Establish operating capability before committing

A realistic trial includes an update, an outage and restoration of the intended service. Quality and response time must also suit representative customer cases. Accessible model weights may enable operation but do not settle all rights and obligations. A total cost assessment should include staffing, maintenance, security work and a later transition. Additional control is useful only when the organisation can exercise it in practice.
