GLOSSARY
Token
A token is a language model's processing unit, such as a word fragment, a word or punctuation. The tokenisation method determines how text is divided. Words, characters and tokens therefore cannot be converted using one fixed ratio across all languages and models.
Estimate the cost of a substantial customer file
When analysing meeting notes and contract documents, token volume affects how much material can be processed and the variable model charges. Billing may treat inputs, outputs and other processing differently. The conditions of the specific service determine the calculation.
A price per token alone is therefore difficult to interpret in a sales process. The cost of a defined task, such as a reviewed account briefing, is more useful. Repeated calls, long answers and later corrections can change that cost. Selecting relevant material can also avoid unnecessary volume.
Use representative tasks for planning
A cost estimate should include short and extensive cases and expected retries while maintaining required quality. The context window limits available processing capacity; a token budget controls the planned amount. Both explain technical constraints, but neither by itself establishes economic value or a better negotiation outcome.
